The American Legion is the largest U.S. veterans organization with more than 1.6 million members who strengthen the nation through programs, services and advocacy for those who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces, youth and communities.
Post #1635 has been an integral part of our community since it was first established in 1947. The Post serves as a welcome home to Veterans and Service Members alike, supporting the civic life of our town. We are dedicated to inspiring leadership, good citizenship, and excellence in America’s future leaders through a variety of youth programs

FOUR-S POST received its charter Oct 10,1947 with 85 members under the leadership of Commander Joseph Bouse.
The Post name "FOUR-S" was selected because the last names of 4 town residence killed in WWII all started with "S"
Daniel Skuders - Second Class, US Navy. Killed June 24, 1944 in the pacific.
Stephen Sosnecke - Staff Sgt. US Army Air Force, Attached to the 39th Bomb Squadron of the 8th Air Force as a tail gunner on a B-24. Lost his life on D-Day.
Martin Sweeney - Private, US Army. Attached to Company F of the 175th Infantry Division. He was killed in Germany on February 12, 1945.
Walter J. Swearer - Lieutenant, US Navy. Was killed on October 26, 1942 aboard the Aircraft Carrier USS Enterprise during the battle of the Solomons.
The Post was built in 1957 on the corner of Bayview Ave. and Main Street. with money raised by selling bonds to townspeople and members.

In 1955, the veterans of East Islip issued $25 bonds like this one to raise funds for a new American Legion hall. Neighbors and local families purchased the bonds, each earning 4% interest, but more importantly, helping to turn a dream into reality.
These bonds built more than a building—they created a lasting home for veterans, a gathering place for fellowship, remembrance, and community service.
Every bond represented trust, pride, and the spirit of East Islip coming together to honor its heroes.
